As a backwoods kid raised by his ‘Uncle’ Sid in the remote Appalachian Mountains of Georgia, Detective Lieutenant Bryar Cold thinks he pretty much knows and understands the redneck culture of the area. In the years he’s been a part of the Major Crimes Division of the Atlanta Police Department, he has built a reputation of a somewhat cocky, smart alec investigator with little regard for ‘going by the book’. He has also established himself as an ace detective who has never had a case go to the cold case files.

Just as he thinks his life is pretty much on an even redneck detective keel, he is handed a case that will test his hunches and instincts, and have him questioning his calling. A couple has mysteriously died beside the waterfall at Stone Mountain, Georgia. Their unexplainable deaths are almost secondary to the strange positioning of their bodies and the lack of available evidence. A mixture of characters start to cross Detective Cold’s radar. From a new partner to a quirky Cajun park services ranger to a provocative one-night stand, Cold’s emotions are all over the board.

Will this be the case that causes Detective Cold to concede defeat? Is it time for him to hang up trying to blend in with a bureaucratic police division that seems to hold him back? Should he cut his losses and go into private practice like he’s often dreamed?

Readers will be intrigued by this Backwoods cigar smoking, lid turning, beer drinking redneck as he once again proves that there’s nothing quite like the analysis of human behavior when it comes to bringing criminal perpetrators to justice.
